The In-Between Move
ZWISCHENZUG (German for 'in-between move'): in the middle of an 'obvious' sequence — a trade, a recapture, a retreat — you insert something more forcing first. Usually a check.
Why it works: your opponent calculated the automatic reply. The in-between move breaks their script, and forcing moves (checks!) don't wait their turn.
