Space Advantage

SPACE = the territory your pawns claim. Advanced pawns give your pieces more squares, faster routes between wings, and shove your opponent's pieces into a crowded garage where they trip over each other.

Space is a real advantage — but it's a LANDLORD'S advantage: it pays rent only if you use the room (maneuver, switch wings, prepare breaks), and it comes with a mortgage (advanced pawns leave weak squares behind them — see the outposts lesson).
