Reading Pawn Structures

Pieces come and go; PAWNS define the landscape — they move slowly, never backward, and their skeleton usually outlives every trade. That's why strong players don't memorize openings; they memorize STRUCTURES: recurring pawn skeletons, each with known plans for both sides.

This workshop teaches the big four you'll meet constantly:

• the ISOLATED QUEEN'S PAWN (from the Strategy course — now with siblings) • the CARLSBAD structure and its famous minority attack • PAWN CHAINS and how to break them • HANGING PAWNS, the IQP's dangerous twin

First skill: recognition. Strip away the pieces in your mind and read the skeleton.
