Mate-in-2s are mate-in-1s with a forcing move stapled to the front. The recipe:

1. Find the mate-in-1 that ALMOST works 2. Ask what's stopping it (a defender, an escape square, a blocker) 3. Find the forcing move — check, capture, or sacrifice — that removes the obstacle
