The Isolated Queen's Pawn

The ISOLATED QUEEN'S PAWN (IQP) — a d-pawn with no c- or e-pawn neighbors — is chess's great split personality:

• In the MIDDLEGAME it's a strength: it grants the e5 outpost, open lines, and attacking energy. IQP-side plans: pieces out fast, knight to e5, push d5 at the right moment, attack the king.

• In the ENDGAME it's a patient: one fixed weakness, permanently guarded. Anti-IQP plans: blockade the square in front, trade pieces, collect in the ending.

Same pawn. The clock decides which story wins.
